Monkeypox Virus is a rare sylvatic zoonosis caused by DNA virus, belonging to the family Poxviridae.

Transmission can occur person-to-person through close direct contact with lesions (vesicles) and mucous membranes, body fluids and even through respiratory droplets expelled into the air and fomites. The incubation period can range from 5 to 21 days. This disease is often self-limiting and symptoms usually resolve spontaneously within 5 to 21 days after onset.

VIASURE Monkeypox Virus RT PCR kit allows the laboratory to:

  • Rapidly identify cases, clusters, and the sources of infection as soon as possible
  • Provide optimal clinical care, isolate cases to prevent further transmission
  • Identify and manage contacts
  • Tailor effective control and prevention methods based on most commonly identified routes of transmission
  • Report qualitative identification of DNA from Monkeypox Virus
  • Utilise serum, vesicle/cutaneous-skin fluid, fluid from wounds and swab wound
