Mindray’s new PLT-H parameter, paving the way for reliable, cost effective PLT counts without the need for additional reagents for PLT-O.

Traditional impedance PLT counts (PLT-I), are subject to interference when microcytic RBC fragments are present, creating falsely high PLT counts or falsely low PLT counts in the presence of large PLT’s or PLT aggregation. Optical PLT count (PLT-O) has been the method of choice to provide an accurate count along with blood film review. This method requires the use of additional expensive reagents and repeat testing.

PLT-H offered by Mindray on the BC-700 series instruments offers a solution by combining data from the impedance channel and the DIFF channel.

Principle PLT-H

The PLT-H technology utilizes a high-precision micro-particle optical detection system to collect scattered light from the organelles within platelets in order to count large platelets. Combined with the impedance channel for small-volume platelets, the results from both channels are integrated to obtain the final platelet count. Comparison studies with flow cytometry (ICSH reference method) (r=0.9873, y=1.0179x+5.0894) show good correlation.
