Jackson Western Blotting Basics

Western blotting is an analytical technique used to identify specific proteins or peptides from biological samples or solutions containing complex mixtures.

The proteins are linearised and separated by size using gel electrophoresis. They are then transferred to a membrane that immobilises the protein.

The membrane is blocked and then probed with a primary antibody directed against the protein of interest, which is subsequently detected by a secondary antibody conjugate, allowing the analyte to be visualised.
